LOGAN, Utah – Halfway through their season, Utah State is looking for a new starting quarterback.

Aggies interim head coach Frank Maile announced on Sunday evening that quarterback Jason Shelley was dismissed from the team for violating team rules.

After starting all four games this season for Utah State, the program will need to find a new quarterback to turn to as they head down the second half of the season.

As of right now, Frank Maile has two options for the future starting QB.

Andrew Peasley

Peasley is a sophomore from La Grande, Oregon. He has played in three games this season, throwing for 29 yards and one interception. When the season started back in October, then-head coach Gary Andersen said that Shelley and Peasley would get reps.

Peasley was not available for Utah State in their loss to Fresno State. Frank Maile said they didn’t have Peasley because it “wasn’t an option.” Reports on social media indicate that he is in COVID-19 protocol. Utah State’s next game is Thursday in Laramie against the Wyoming Cowboys. If Peasley isn’t available for the game on Thursday, he will likely be the starting quarterback whenever he returns.

Cooper Legas

Legas is a redshirt freshman from Orem High School in Orem, Utah. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school. While playing for the Tigers, Legas threw for 9,770 yards, ran for 2,770 yards and accounted for 124 touchdowns and led Orem to back-to-back state championships.

If Peasley can’t go on Thursday, expect Legas to make his first collegiate start.

Utah State and Wyoming will kickoff at 7 p.m. MST on Thursday on CBS Sports Network.
