Utah Women’s Basketball Cruises To Seventh-Straight Win, Defeat Arizona State 98-62

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah women’s basketball earned their seventh straight victory in a 96-62 road win over the Arizona State Sun Devils.

The Utes took control early and gradually increased their lead over the course of the game.

Veterans Gianna Kneepkens and Kennady McQueen led the way today, as the two finished a combined 16 of 22 from the field for 44 points.

Gavin Peterson and the Utes improved to 20-5 overall and 11-3 in conference play.

Utah’s vets lead the way against Arizona State

It was another special outing for Gianna Kneepkens and Kennady McQueen. The two veterans got Utah going early and never took their foot off the gas.

They combined for 30 points after two quarters, Kneepkens with 18 and McQueen with 12. Then, in the 3rd quarter alone, the two scored 14 more, each going 3-for-3 from the field.

They exited the game midway through the third quarter after building a 26-point cushion, then played a couple of minutes in the 4th.

These two are playing great basketball and continued their elite-level 50-40-90 shooting splits in this one.

Kneepkens finished 9 of 13 overall, 4 of 7 from deep, and 2 for 2 at the line. McQueen went 7 of 9 overall and 6 of 8 from deep.

Making it rain from 3-point range

Utah shot the lights out against the Sun Devils. The Utes finished the game 18-of-32 from deep.

They were led by McQueens’ 6-of-8 and Kneepkens’ 4-of-7 shooting. These two set the tone early and continued it throughout the game.

It was much more than those two, though. Maty Wilke converted 4-of-8, Samantha Crispe 2-of-2, while Ines Veiria and Maye Toure each converted 1-of-3 from deep.

Utah’s offensive attack focuses on generating 3-point opportunities, and when they shoot like this, they are tough to beat.

Encouraging play off the bench

The Utes were led largely by their starters, but Gavin Peterson got a lot out of the bench in this one.

In total, four bench players combined for 37 points today. Led by Wilke’s 16 and Cripse’s 8 points, Reese Ross added 6, Brooke Walker finished with 4, and Nene Sow added a free throw.

The energy and defensive intensity these players provide are key to the spark they provide off the bench.

Ross has made her presence felt there largely each of the past two seasons. However, freshman Brooke Walker has been really good lately. She’s consistently brought a tenacious attitude and effort as the point defender.

UP NEXT – Utah vs No. 20 Oklahoma State
