Former Oregon Duck Compliments Utah’s Hand Painted Helmets To Honor Teammates

SALT LAKE CITY- If anyone is an authority on uniform coolness, it’s an Oregon Duck. Former running back sensation LaMichael James took to Twitter to compliment Utah on the latest edition to their hand painted helmet series that they will wear during Saturday’s showdown with USC.

“These might be the dopest thing ever…,” James said in his retweet of Utah football’s uniform reveal that was picked up by ESPN.
LaMichael James Compliments “22 Forever” Helmets
In the last episode of Utah football’s “22 Forever” mini-docu-series, the Utes revealed their plans for their annual hand painted helmets that have been a bit of a uniform calling card for the program since 2014. The latest helmets feature portraits of running back Ty Jordan and cornerback Aaron Lowe with the “22 Forever” logo on the back and surrounded by the “Moment of Loudness” lights.
Last season the Utes faced unimaginable tragedy when both players tragically passed away under extreme circumstances nine months apart. Despite the turmoil, Utah persevered and earned their first Pac-12 Title and Rose Bowl appearance. The Utes have continued to remember and honor their teammates’ lives and legacies with the latest being the hand painted helmet.
Having someone so strongly connected to the “Uniform Kings” like James appreciate the gesture and the meaning behind the uniform has to be a nice boost for the Utes Equipment staff who take immense pride in their work.
Unfortunately, the Ducks are no stranger to heartache either having lost tight end Spencer Webb over the summer after a head injury he sustained in a fall became too much to overcome. James and Webb were never teammates, but anyone closely connected to a program understands the pain that comes with losing one of your own, and James’ comment on Utah’s helmet seems to reflect that a bit.
Utah and Oregon will play later on in the 2022 season at Autzen Stadium. Time and channel yet to be announced.
