Four-Star Edge Rusher Hunter Clegg Flips Commitment From Stanford To Utah

SALT LAKE CITY- They say winning cures all and that certainly appears to be the case for Utah football. After bullying USC in the Pac-12 Conference Championship for all to see, the Utes have had a rush of commitments ahead of Early Signing Day. Local four-star edge rusher Hunter Clegg is the latest Utah commit after recently backing off his long-standing commitment to Stanford.

Clegg is someone Utah has wanted bad and never gave up on, even when he looked destined to head to the Cardinal. Clearly, the persistence paid off as Clegg becomes the latest signee for the Utes in a class that is shaping up to be the best in school history.
Taking A Closer Look At Hunter Clegg
One area the Utes wanted to get better in was getting pressure off the edge and the addition of Clegg will certainly help in that regard. The four-star American Fork product stands at 6’4″ and 235 pounds with a lot of get-up.
Clegg was another hot commodity with a long offer list that included the likes of Oklahoma, Michigan State, Auburn, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, and Baylor. Ultimately, Stanford won Clegg’s pledge, but with the season they had and head coach David Shaw pulling the plug on his career with the Cardinal, Clegg re-opened his recruitment.
According to 247 Sports, Clegg possesses good bend, speed, and ability to make every play count. Clegg also ran track in high school recently posting 11.81 and 11.94 100-meter times and a 24.39 200-meter time this past spring.
Early Signing Period Approaches
The early signing period is rapidly approaching for football, opening on December 21 and closing on December 23. The “traditional” signing period for the 2023 class will fall on Wednesday, February 1 but has become less dramatic over the years due to most prospects signing in December.
It is expected Utah will have most of their class in place in the Early Signing Period with a few last-minute additions coming in February to round things out.
The Utes currently have 20 hard commits counting the addition of Hunter Clegg along with Levani Damuni, Logan and Spencer Fano earlier on.
