SALT LAKE CITY – It’s finally here. Utah women’s basketball is hosting Gardner-Webb in the first round of the NCAA Tournament tonight and the Utah Jazz gave them a special shoutout.

The Jazz Twitter account retweeted the Utes’ game information Tweet saying, “Good luck Utah women’s basketball!! Can’t wait to watch.”

As a two-seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the Utah women will host rounds one (March 17) and two, (Sunday, March 19) at the Huntsman Center. If the Utes handle business against the Bulldogs, they will advance to Sunday’s contest against the winner of Princeton and North Carolina State being played after their game.

Two-seed Utah will be tipping off tonight at 5:30 p.m. MT against the 15-seed Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at the Huntsman Center. The game can be viewed on ESPNU. After the Utes and Bulldogs wrap up, seven-seed NC State and 10-seed Princeton will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. MT also at the Huntsman Center.

The winners of Friday’s games will then have an opportunity to play each other on Sunday. (Time and teams yet to be determined.)

It’s been an incredible season so far for the Utah women as they have set new precedents and records for a program that had long been forgotten.

Utah women’s basketball has spent 12 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of the AP Top 25 Poll, achieving their highest ranking in program history of No. 3 at one point after beating Stanford in the regular season. They currently sit at No. 8 heading into March Madness.

Utes’ win over the Cardinal a few weeks back yielded Utah’s first-ever piece of the regular season Pac-12 Title and helped them sweep postseason awards.

Despite a lot to hang their hat on already, Utah is now fully focused on making a run in the NCAA Tournament. Last season they made it to the second round of play but lost to Texas. This year, Utah hopes they will fare a little better and make it past Sunday to be part of the Sweet 16 being held in South Carolina.
