SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After a thrilling 24-13 win over Washington State, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is pleased with the upcoming bye week.

It was a game that saw his team fumble the ball seven times, including three lost fumbles, his starting RB leave with injury and three safeties leaving the game.

Utah now has two weeks to prepare for USC at the Coliseum where they haven’t won in over 100 years.

“It’s a great time for bye, couldn’t be at a better time, you couldn’t script anything better right now,” Whittingham said after the game. “It is very welcomed and we need all the time we get to regroup and figure some things out and get some guys healed up. We also lost three safeties in the game today, we lost Vonte Davis, we lost Brandon McKinney and we lost Cole Bishop. We didn’t have any more than two that were in the game and were the last two we had and so we lost another one, (Morgan) Scalley would have gone out there.”

It was a tough game for the offense but Whittingham was pleased with their fight. But the turnovers are a big concern for Whittingham.

“We coach it every day without fail and we’re gonna continue to coach it every day and we just got to keep harping on it until we get the results we need,” stated Whittingham. “If you start talking about it too much it almost becomes a self fulfilling prophecy where it becomes a distraction so we just got to go back to work, fundamentally carry the football like we’ve taught to do and we should be okay.”

Utah will have a bye next week before going on the road to face the USC Trojans on Saturday, October 9.
