SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham feels that his team got better and made a lot of progress during spring camp.

Kyle Whittingham and his staff put together a camp that featured 16 practices, which ended in the red-black spring game on Saturday, April 17. After the spring game, which the red team picked up a 21-0 win, Whittingham was asked what he learned about his program during the spring.

“I think we are going to be a complete football team,” Whittingham said. “We had some question marks at certain positions. I think we solidified just about every question mark that we had. We will take a hard evaluation over the next two to three weeks of what transpired during spring ball and evaluate all the film and determine whether we need to continue to look through the portal and decide what short comings we may have. Overall, we came out of spring feeling like we are a pretty good team.”

The coaches have a lot of film to watch over the coming weeks, Whittingham said the team had over 800 reps in a team setting, “which is basically a season.”

It was a productive camp for the program as they were able to get most of their newcomers enrolled during the spring semester. Utah benefitted greatly by having four key transfers participate in spring football, including quarterbacks Charlie Brewer and Ja’Quinden Jackson, along with running backs T.J. Pledger and Chris Curry.

The Utes will now be off until June 1 when they start summer workouts. Fall camp will start either the end of July or the first week of August and the season opener will be on Thursday, September 2 when they host Weber State.
