LOS ANGELES, Calif. – It took a record-setting performance for the Utah gymnastics team to beat the UCLA Bruins. Utah received a perfect 10 score from Abby Paulson on the beam to lift the Red Rocks to a 198.075-198.025 road win over the Bruins.

Entering the meet, both Utah and UCLA were tied in the national rankings at No. 3.

The 49.775 score on the beam set a new school record that stood until 1995. Paulson’s perfect 10 is the first perfect score on the beam for Utah since 2008 and it’s the highest beam score in the nation this season.

Cristal Isa and Alexia Burch each scored a 9.95 in the fourth rotation on the beam to help bolster the season-best score. It was Burch’s career-best score on the beam. Adrienne Randall recorded a career-high 9.975 score.

In the first rotation on the bars, Maile O’Keefe’s routine earned her a career-high 9.925 score. Emilie LeBlanc and Isa chipped in 9.90 and 9.925 scores respectively. Utah had a 49.600-49.375 lead over UCLA following the first rotation.

Utah moved to the vault where Burch and Kim Tessen each notched a 9.90 score. After two rotations, the Red Rocks had a narrow 98.825-98.700 advantage over UCLA.

On the floor, Isa recorded a 9.925 and Randall added a 9.90 routine. Sydney Soloski ended the rotation strong with a 9.95 score. After three rotations, the Utes had a 148-300-148.225 lead over the Bruins.

The Red Rocks improved their record to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in Pac-12 competition. They will head to Seattle to battle the Washington Huskies on Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
