Rylan Jones Shows Maturity With Clutch Shots In Utes Win Over BYU

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Utes true freshman point guard Rylan Jones showed his maturity under the bright lights with a big performance against BYU.
The two-time Utah Mr. Basketball recorded a career-high 25 points to go with his 3 rebounds and 6 assists. He shot 9-15 from the field and 3-7 from downtown, including the game tying three that sent the game to overtime.
Jones needed a spark at the end of regulation, with the game tied in the final moments of the second half, Jones positioned himself to potentially give Utah their first lead but missed a point blank layup.

“I was mad at myself for about 10 seconds then I moved on but Timmy (Allen) told me to keep going,” Jones said after the game.

In Utah’s 102-95 overtime win over BYU, Jones scored half of the Utes points in the extra period, finishing with 8 of their 16 points.
One of the things that makes the freshman’s game special is his ability to draw offensive fouls. He was a big part of getting BYU guard T.J. Haws to foul of the game.
“He is an absolute warrior, he understands the game really well and makes the play that is presented to him,” head coach Larry Krystkowiak said after the game.
The Utes improved their record to 6-2 on the season. They will return to the Huntsman Center on Saturday for their final home game of their non-conference schedule to face Central Arkansas at 3 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
