Utah Football Hoping For More Treats Than Tricks In Final Stretch Of Season

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah football team is hoping to see more treats than tricks as they head down the home stretch of the 2021 season.
It was mainly tricks through the first three weeks of the season, followed by some treats over the next three games after that, with some candy corn being served against Washington State.
Here are some tricks and treats for Utah football in honor of Halloween.
Utah Treats
Let’s get the first treat for Utah fans out in the open. Cam Rising has been nothing short of sensational this season in his short time as the starting QB. In three games as the starter, Charlie Brewer completed 60% of his passes for 484 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Midway through week three’s game against San Diego State, Brewer was benched and finished his short stint with the Utes with a 1-2 record as the starter.
Since then, Rising has completed 64% of his pass attempts for 1,139 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. It’s been obvious how much command of the offense that Rising has had this season and how a switch flipped when he became the starter. Utah fans, enjoy him for the next two years. He is going to be special.

Utes’ Tricks
If anyone told me that Utah would struggle in stopping the run on defense and would have miscues on special teams while Kyle Whittingham was the head coach, I would say you were tricking me. But that’s the reality right now for the Utes. It’s hard to blame them though. Entering the 2020 season, Utah has played a ton of young defenders with Mika Tafua and Devin Lloyd being the only veterans on that side of the football.

The Utes will take their lumps but they are fortunate to have started figuring things out on offense because it could be a very long season if that wasn’t the case. Although Utah’s defense has struggled in stopping the run, the future is extremely bright with so many young and talented players coming back for the next year or two.
