SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rice-Eccles Stadium erupted in between the third and fourth quarters with a moment of loudness to honor Ty Jordan.

Since the tribute was so electric, Utah football announced on Twitter that the tradition will remain throughout the 2021 season.

At the end of the third quarter and during the break leading up to the fourth quarter, Utah played a tribute video on the jumbotron which was voiced by head coach Kyle Whittingham.

“One of the greatest feelings in the world is hearing Rice-Eccles erupt after a huge play,” Whittingham said in the video. “Last season, we played our games without you, our fans, here to cheer us on. In December, when we lost Ty, our friend, brother, and teammate, many of us lamented at not being able to share with him a moment of unrivaled Rice-Eccles energy. Ty, only here a few short months, made a lasting impact on us, our culture and you, our fans. So today, in lieu of a moment of silence, we ask that each and every one of you rise to your feet, and let your voices ring from the mountains up to the heavens in a moment of loudness, electricity, and joy, in honor of the late, great Ty Jordan.”

Utah also named portal 22 after Ty Jordan, which the portal now has the “LLTJ” logo that was worn on the helmets of the spring game. That same logo is a decal on the back of the helmets.

The Utes will be on the road for the next two games before returning to Rice-Eccles Stadium for their Pac-12 opener on Saturday, September 25 against Washington State.
