SALT LAKE CITY — The Utes keep the momentum on the trail as they’ve landed commitment No. 17 in the 2026 class, as V. Sue Cleveland High School (Rio Rancho, NM) offensive lineman Moses Sparks has pledged to Kyle Whittingham’s Utah football program.

He was part of the second group of official visitors who tripped to Salt Lake City over the June 6 weekend. He’s the fourth commitment of the week, following four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot, as well as Jaron & Kennan Pula.

Offensive lineman Moses Sparks commits to Utah football

As a promising offensive line prospect, Sparks watched his recruitment pick up over a year. He doesn’t have the biggest offer sheet, but he’s earned offers from Arizona State, Houston, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon State, and Texas Tech.

Sparks is rated an 88 three-star and No. 38 interior offensive lineman by 247 Sports. He’s also the No. 1 player in the state of New Mexico. He’s taken official visits to Boise State, Utah, Nebraska, Oregon State, and Texas Tech.

He’s been a focus for Jim Harding and the offensive line recruiting. The Utes have a big need for linemen in this class, and Sparks becomes the second one to commit this week.

He becomes Utah’s 17th commit of the class, joining running back LaMarcus Bell, edge Prestion Pitts, quarterback Michael Johnson, linebacker LaGary Mitchell, cornerback Major Hinchen, safety Carter Stewart, tight end Bear Fisher, receiver Perrion Williams, offensive lineman Rowdy Pearce, defensive lineman Javion Ramon, tight end Josiah Jefferson, offensive tackle Kelvin Obot, and Jaron & Kennan Pula.

How does Moses Sparks fit with Utah football?

Sparks is a 6-foot-4, 280-pound lineman who projects best to the interior of the offensive line. He currently plays tackle and possesses a lot of potential.

Sparks is a naturally powerful offensive lineman who possesses experience at right tackle. Even as a sophomore, his multi-sport background—highlighted by a 52-foot-plus shot put and a 140-foot discus—underscores his elite lower-body explosiveness and raw strength.

In pads, that translates to a punishing run-game presence: he fights for leverage, locks onto defenders, and drives them off the line with authority. As a puller and second-level blocker, he moves on schedule and delivers tight, finishing blocks that open holes for the running game.

While his run-blocking effort and power are impressive, his fundamentals and technique are still a work in progress. He has promising athleticism, but will need to continue to improve at the next level. He needs to play with a more consistent base and pad level.

He flashes strong hands in pass sets, the ability to anchor, and the power to redirect bull rushes. As he becomes more consistent with his technique, Sparks projects as a mauler at guard, who provides plus potential in pass protection.

All in all, this is a really good addition for Utah’s offensive line. This gives Utah another solid prospect for the offensive line, with room to add additional key pieces to the class.
