Utah Football Officially Names Charlie Brewer Starting Quarterback

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Kyle Whittingham and the Utah football program has officially named Charlie Brewer the starting quarterback for the season opener.
It was reported Monday by several outlets and confirmed by KSL Sports but Utah made it official on Thursday when they released their depth chart. Thursday marks one week until the 2021 season opener against Weber State.
Cam Rising, who was in a competitive battle with Brewer in fall camp, will be the backup quarterback.

Brewer threw for 9,700 yards and 65 touchdowns in four seasons and 44 games played at Baylor.

Going into fall camp, Brewer was the favorite to start over Rising with the experience at a power-five program that came with winning big games. Also, Rising was coming off of a shoulder injury that he suffered early in the second quarter in the 2020 season opener against USC. Rising had surgery and came back strong and made it a very competitive battle during fall camp.
Utah will open the 2021 season against Weber State on Thursday, September 2 at 5:30 p.m. MT on the Pac-12 Network.
