Utah Football Sees Slight Increase In COVID-19 Vaccinations

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Just like every program across the country, Utah football is working towards getting their team fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

When fall camp started in early August, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham mentioned that his program was around 92 or 93 percent vaccinated. That number made a slight jump when asked again at the end of fall camp on Saturday.

“Yeah, it’s gonna be 95 that’s about what we’re gonna level off at 95 percent,” Whittingham said.

Recently, the University of Oregon announced that only fans that can provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test can attend football games this season. Could this provide a problem for players on opposing teams that are not vaccinated to be able to play in the game if it’s at their stadium?

“There may be restrictions on the places we’re going, there’s a distinct possibility that some of these away games if you’re not vaccinated, you can’t do it and so that’s beyond our control but we’re going to end up probably with half a dozen non-vaccinated out of 124, do the math and it’s about 95 percent,” Whittingham stated.

A program within Utah Athletics that is fully vaccinated is the men’s basketball team. Head coach Craig Smith told KSL Sports on August that his program is fully vaccinated.
