Utah-Hand-Painted-Helmet-Commemorating-Teammates...

PULLMAN- Utah football used their 2022 hand painted helmets to honor fallen teammates Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe against USC two weeks ago, the team announced Wednesday they will wear those same helmets on their trip to Pullman to take on Washington State.

A Uniform Move With Meaning

Just like USC, the uniform move has significance for the Utes. The Trojans were Jordan’s first opponent in his short collegiate career, while it was the first game Utah played after finding out about Lowe’s murder last year. In a story fully of eerie parallels, Washington State was both Jordan and Lowe’s last opponents before their stunning deaths almost exactly nine months apart. Both players also wore the number 22 which the program retired in 2021.

To announce the uniform combination for their game against the Cougars, Utah used quarterback turned running back Ja’Quinden Jackson. Jackson was friends with both Jordan and Lowe with all three having grown up in the same Dallas neighborhood. Before the season started, Jackson was named the second recipient of the Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe Memorial Scholarship- Lowe was the first recipient. Earlier in the week, Jackson was recognized as one of Utah Athletic’s Student-Athletes of the Month after taking care of business in the classroom and on the field.

The Utes have dedicated their 2022 football season to Jordan and Lowe. While they didn’t get off to the start they wanted with two losses against Florida and UCLA, Utah did appear to find their groove against USC while wearing their hand painted helmets. It seems reasonable that the team would like to continue that spark by wearing them again against an opponent that has meaning to both Jordan and Lowe.

Despite it being a little over a year since Lowe’s death and pushing up on two years for Jordan, the Utes say everything they do continues to be in their teammates’ memory. The Utes have always prided themselves on being a “family” and continue to prove it by keeping two players who loved the team more than anything close by.
