SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah guard Alfonso Plummer was named Pac-12 Player of the Week after his performance in their win over Colorado on Saturday.

The Utah basketball team trailed Colorado by 19 points with 8:46 remaining in the game, when Alfonso Plummer scored 21 points in that stretch. Plummer played just one minute in the first half because of foul trouble. He scored 23 points in the second half in total.

Plummer shot 8-of-13 from the field, 4-for-6 from the three-point line and 3-of-3 from the foul line in just 16 minutes. This is the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for Plummer in his career.

Many had flashbacks of Plummer’s breakout game last season when he set a new Pac-12 Tournament record with 11 three-pointers in the first round against Oregon State. Plummer has improved his game since that March afternoon in Las Vegas. He was just feeling it in Boulder.

“I was feeling it, you know,” Plummer said after his performance against Colorado. “I’ve always been equipped, didn’t put my head down. So I was just ready to go in and help my team.”

It was a massive win for the Runnin’ Utes. Colorado entered the game ranked No. 17 in the NET rankings. Plummer was excited to get such an important win.

“Really big to be honest,” Plummer mentioned. “Colorado is one of the best teams in the Pac-12. They always talk about this team going to the tournament. So it’s a really good win and it’s a start for us to keep winning. It was a really important win today. Very happy.”

Utah improved their record to 7-7 overall and 4-6 in Pac-12 play. They will return to the Jon M. Huntsman Center to face Arizona on Thursday, February 4. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. MST and will be broadcast on FS1.
