Utah Guard Gabe Madsen Out 4-6 Weeks With Lower Leg Injury

SALT LAKE CITY – Just before the Utes were set to take on Stanford, Utah basketball announced guard Gabe Madsen is out for the game and will likely miss 4-6 weeks with a lower leg injury.

The injury in question took place last week when the Runnin’ Utes were on the road taking on Oregon. Madsen’s injury took place close to the beginning of the game and he never returned to the court. 

Madsen accounts for a big part of Utah’s offensive production as the second leading scorer on the team averaging 11.7 points per game. The Utes desperately needed Madsen in last week’s loss against the Ducks after he was out with the injury.

A Three-Game Home Stretch

The Runnin’ Utes will be home for the next three games starting with Stanford Thursday night at 6pm MT. From there Utah will host Cal on Sunday and Colorado the following Saturday night.

Utah has a chance to slip into post-season play but need to finish the regular season strong to get it done. Being able to regroup and figure out what the team will look like for a few weeks without Madsen at home the next three game should help.

The Utes currently sit at 15-8 on the season, a drastic improvement from where they were last season in head coach Craig Smith’s first season but have eight more games to get through before the Pac-12 Tournament.

Players like Lazar Stefanovic and Rollie Worster who have had their own moments in games as productive scorers will most likely be looked to among others in order to pick up some of the slack in Madsen’s absence.
