Utah, Weber State Game Enters Lightning Delay Early In First Quarter

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Early in the first quarter of Utah’s season opener against Weber State, the game entered a lightning delay.
With 8:26 remaining in the first quarter, the officials announced at Rice-Eccles Stadium that both teams must go to their locker rooms with lightning entering the area. By rule, there has to be 30 minutes from the last lightning strike that doesn’t have another strike of lightning in order for the teams to go back to the field and begin warming up.
Weber State had a 7-3 lead after Rashid Shaheed returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.
Utah’s first possession of the game resulted in a field goal.

Before the KR for a touchdown by Weber, both Utah and the Wildcats had one offensive possession. Weber State had nine yards of total offense and was forced to punt.
Charlie Brewer threw for 30 yards in his debut before the offense stalled in the red zone.
