SALT LAKE CITY — In a season defined by difficulties, growth, and learning the realities of Big 12 basketball, Terrence Brown emerged as Utah’s most dynamic offensive weapon.

On Monday, the conference recognized that production. Brown was named All–Big 12 Honorable Mention, an acknowledgment of the junior guard’s breakout season and the offensive responsibility he carried for the Runnin’ Utes.

Brown finished the regular season averaging 20.8 points, 3.9 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 44.9% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range.

The numbers placed him among the Big 12’s most productive guards and near the top of the conference’s scoring leaderboard.

Terrence Browned earns honorable mention in the Big 12

For a Utah team navigating its first season under head coach Alex Jensen and adjusting to the weekly grind of the Big 12, Brown frequently served as the offense’s engine. His quickness off the dribble, ability to create space, and willingness to attack the rim gave the Utes a reliable source of scoring even against elite defenses.

Brown delivered double-figure scoring in the vast majority of Utah’s games and recorded at least 20 points 10 times during the season, illustrating his role as Utah’s primary offensive option.

Several of his best performances came against high-level competition.

Early in the season, Brown exploded for a career-high 36 points in Utah’s 92–89 overtime win over Weber State, a performance that showcased the scoring punch he would bring throughout the year.

During conference play, Brown continued to produce against nationally ranked opponents. He scored 26 points against top-ranked Arizona in Utah’s Big 12 opener and added 25 points in a rivalry matchup against BYU, showing the ability to generate offense against some of the league’s toughest defensive teams.

Beyond the headline scoring numbers, Brown also carried a heavy workload for the Utes. He averaged 32 minutes per game, frequently handling the ball late in possessions and serving as Utah’s primary shot creator when defenses tightened.

That responsibility was especially significant given the defensive pressure typical of Big 12 play. Night after night, Brown faced aggressive on-ball defenders, traps, and extended perimeter denial from some of the most physical teams in the country.

Yet he remained one of Utah’s most consistent performers. Even when the offense stalled — something that happened fairly often for the Utes this season — Brown often served as the release valve, using his burst to attack the paint or create scoring opportunities off the dribble.

The honorable mention recognition reflects not only Brown’s individual production but also the respect he earned around the league. For Utah, it also highlights an important building block moving forward.

In the modern college basketball landscape, where roster continuity can change quickly, guards capable of creating offense and handling Big 12 defensive pressure are invaluable.

As Utah prepares for the Big 12 tournament, Jensen will need Brown to up his level of play even higher for the Utes.
