Utes Move Nephi Sewell From Safety To Linebacker

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah announced that Nephi Sewell has moved from safety to linebacker ahead of their spring football practices.

Entering spring football practice, it was an option for Sewell to make the move from safety to linebacker. Utah football confirmed the move for the Nevada transfer.
He will compete for the starting job at mac linebacker. Returning junior Devin Lloyd will be the starting rover linebacker this season after starting alongside Francis Bernard in 2019.
Sewell started at safety during the Utes’ loss to Texas in the Alamo Bowl.

Andrew Mata’afa has been listed as the starter during spring ball with Sewell as the backup.
The Utes also announced their captains and leadership council for spring football. The leadership council includes running back Devin Brumfield, wide receivers Britain Covey and Solomon Enis, offensive lineman Nick Ford, tight ends Cole Fotheringham and Brant Kuithe, punter Ben Lennon, Devin Lloyd, defensive lineman Hauati Pututau, quarterback Cameron Rising, defensive end Mika Tafua, wide receiver Bryan Thompson and center Orlando Umana.
The captains during the spring will be Orlando Umana, Solomon Enis, Devin Lloyd, Mika Tafua and Ben Lennon.
