Utes Get Hot Shooting The Three, Raise $1600 On Their Way To A Win Over Washington

Feb 10, 2023, 8:53 PM

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utes were hot in the Huntsman Center Friday night shooting the three making 16 – 29 shots while raising $1600 for the Food Justice Coalition of Salt Lake City on their way to a convincing win over Washington.

Utah women’s basketball beat the Huskies 92 – 69 while shooting 51% from the field, 55% from the three and going 93% from the line. Gianna Kneepkens led the team in scoring with 19 points and assists six while Kelcey Rees was a rebounding star with seven.

Both Kennady McQueen and Alissa Pili led the team in three-point shot percentage made going 100%, but it was Issy Palmer’s halfcourt three-point shot to end the first half that stole the show.

Washington vs. Utah Quarter One

Alissa Pili gets on the board first for the Utes with the jumper after Washington had a turnover of possession to start the game. Pili quickly followed that up with a layup making it a 4-0 game with the Huskies.

After Issy Palmer hit the first three of the night, Gianna Kneepkens followed it up with two three-point shots of her own, giving the Utes a 15-9 lead and $300 to give to the Food Justice Coalition.

Dasia Young hit another three before Kneepkens added another two making it a 22-16 game with just seconds left in the first quarter. A Husky foul put Young at the line for two shots extending Utah’s lead 24-19 to end the first quarter.

Huskies, Utes Second Quarter

Pili drained a three to start the second quarter putting Utah up 27-21 on Washington while raising $500 for the Food Justice Coalition. Loni White followed it up with one off the board and a trip to the line making it a 30-23 game with 8:14 on the clock.

Washington began to make a push on the Utes getting the game within three at around the seven-minute mark before Kneepkens hit a timely three-point shot to give Utah a little room, 33-27. Jenna Johnson went to the line shortly after to make it an eight-point game, 35-27.

McQueen hit another three pushing Utah’s total for Beyond the Paint to $800 before the half was over and extending their lead 44-31. Kneepens followed it up with a two-point shot after an assist from Johnson extending the score 46-31 with 1:46 on the clock.

UW, Utah Quarter Three

Unsurprisingly, Pili put the ball in the hoop first out of the half after bullying her way for the layup. Washington hit a few shots of their own early on, but Utah continued their dominating lead, 56-40 with 6:55 on the clock.

Kelcy Rees puts the ball in the bucket with the assist from Pili helping Utah to continue cruising against the Huskies, 66-48 with under two to play.

Washington vs. Utah Final Quarter

Loni White entered the game and drained her own three putting Utah up 80-55 while giving the Utes their 14th made three-point shot of the night with 6:58 left to play. White followed it up a minute or so later with Utah’s 15th made three-point shot giving the Utes an 83-55 edge.
