Whittingham: Blackmon, Hubert OUT For Alamo Bowl Against Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said that Ute safeties Julian Blackmon and R.J. Hubert have suffered season-ending injuries and will not play in the Valero Alamo Bowl against the Texas Longhorns.
Whittingham broke the news during the Valero Alamo Bowl Head Coaches Press Conference on Thursday, December 12 in San Antonio.
Blackmon and Hubert suffered the season-ending injuries during Utah’s 37-15 loss to the Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

In the loss to Oregon, Blackmon recorded 4 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Hubert posted 2 total tackles including 1 solo tackle.

Blackmon was recently received Pac-12 First Team All-Conference honors for his performance this season. In 12 games, the Utah safety posted 41 solo tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 4 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups.
During his Utah career, Blackmon appeared in 48 games from 2016-2019. The senior recorded 118 solo tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 9 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles while playing for the Utes.

In 2019, Hubert appeared in all 13 of Utah’s games and posted 15 solo tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 pass breakup. He has been a member of Utah football since 2018 and is currently a sophomore for the Utes.
No. 11 Utah and Texas will play in the Valero Alamo Bowl on December 31 in San Antonio. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN.
