UVU Hires SLCC Head Coach Todd Phillips As Assistant Under Madsen

OREM, Utah – UVU’s new head basketball coach, Mark Madsen, has hired a new assistant from the local community college ranks.
The Wolverines announced the hiring of Todd Phillips, who has been serving as Salt Lake Community College’s head coach since 2011, as the newest member of Madsen’s staff.
“Todd Phillips is a brilliant basketball mind and a workaholic,” said Madsen. “Todd has led his team to national championships and has developed his players into great professionals both overseas and in the NBA. He is a proven winner.”

Madsen’s right. Under Phillips, the Bruins had massive success, including a NJCAA Tournament championship in 2016. He compiled a 205-82 record at SLCC and sent a number of student-athletes to success at the NCAA level. Former Phillips-coached players include Gary Payton II, who went on to play at Oregon State, Tyler Rawson, who played at Utah and Connor Toolson, who went on to be a big contributor at UVU.
SLCC athletic director Kevin Dustin wished Phillips nothing but success in his new role at UVU.

“We appreciate everything Todd has done over the last eight years at Salt Lake,” he said. “He’s a terrific coach and will be a tremendous asset for UVU and their program. The entire Bruin family wishes he, Bobbi and Kinzi the best moving forward.”
Last season, the Wolverines finished with a 25-10 and played in the CIT tournament. Their previous head coach, Mark Pope, was hired to replace Dave Rose at BYU.
