SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Sports fans can be crazy, passionate, and overall just weird; especially when it comes to the athletes they take issue with.

Disliking athletes on opposing teams is nothing because we want our team to win and your team to lose, but there are just some that go to the next level.

In Lackawanna, New York, Carole Scarsella recently passed away and in her obituary, in all caps, said she “HATED” Tom Brady, so it is safe to assume she was a massive Buffalo Bill fans. It was one of the five things mentioned about her that she liked to do and it was sandwiched in between playing Facebook games and helping out at the PTA when her kids were growing up.

Naming someone in your obituary probably means it is really a big deal to you. Hating Brady was one of the top five things about Scarsella in her obituary.

How Common Is Disliking A Successful Athlete?

Everyone has that one pro sports figure they take issue with. Most Utah Jazz fans have a grudge against Michael Jordan – as do a lot of other NBA fans. These are the athletes that we know are really good but since they are not on your team you dislike them because of their success against your team.

Alex Kirry and Scott Mitchell of KSL Unrivaled understand the obituary hatred for Brady. Mitchell gets it because he is a Jazz fan who takes issue with Michael Jordan.

“I hope by the time I get to where I am going to die where I don’t hate anyone anymore,” Mitchell said. “If it were today it would be like [former NFL coaches] Jim Zorn and Bobby Ross. Here is the thing, I hate Michael Jordan, but I hate Michael Jordan. I despise him and love him for the same reason.

“Here is a guy who was so competitive and it is not even the push-off on Byron Russell that is not the one that really bothers me. It is that he stole the ball from the previous possession from Karl Malone. Karl Malone had the ball on the low post and probably going to score and possibly win the game. Jordan he was just sneaky.”

Going back to Brady, it is not hard to know why people do not like him. It has little to do with his Super Bowl victories or the life he lives, but it is that he doesn’t even seem like the typical athlete and looks like your neighbor, according to Unrivaled.

“Do you know why people don’t like Tom Brady? It is because ‘how in the heck does he do this? He is not that good of an athlete, he is not. He is not athletic like Michael Jordan and he is not athletic for a quarterback,” Mitchell said. “Any quarterback today is more athletic than Tom Brady, and any quarterback in his era is more athletic than Tom Brady. Maybe Eli Manning is less athletic. He feels average and I know he has the look and is a fierce competitor and supreme confidence. He is not like Dan Marino and it is like, ‘How does this guy do this?'”

Brady is an athlete that everyone – minus New England Patriots fans – can understand not liking them because, let’s be honest, he has probably beaten your favorite team more than once.
