The John Watson Northern Utah High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school football player in Northern Utah. Presented by John Watson Chevrolet in Ogden, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our winner this week was Layton Christian Academy running back Chris Munroe.
Northern Utah Players of the Week – Chris Munroe, Layton Christian Academy
The Layton Christian Academy Eagles continue rolling on through an undefeated season, this time getting a win over the Viewmont Vikings, 55-14. In a night where the Eagles put up over 600 yards on offense, it was the performance from the senior running back Chris Munroe that sealed the win down the stretch. Chris finished the night with 21 carries 188-yards and 2 touchdowns, carrying a large majority of the rushing totals for the Eagles. Layton Christian got out to a 20-0 lead midway through the second quarter before the Vikings scored twice quickly to make it 20-14.
Momentum swung back in favor of Layton Christian late in the third quarter with another touchdown over the Vikings. Chris and the Eagles looked to put the game away in the fourth through their rushing attack. With 8:13 left in the game, Chris would run in a 8-yard rush for his first touchdown of the evening to extend the lead. His second touchdown of the game would again come in the fourth as the Eagles put the game away. Despite the efforts for the Vikings to make a comeback, Layton Christian sealed the game with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.
