Royals DF Rachel Corsie Named To Scotland National Team For 2019 Women’s World Cup

SANDY, Utah – Utah Royals FC defender Rachel Corsie has been named to the Scotland Women’s National Team roster ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
Corsie will be available for Utah’s match on Saturday against North Carolina before joining the national team when they face Jamaica on Tuesday, May 28 in Glasgow, Scotland, which will be the team’s official send-off match prior to their departure to France.
Scotland is in Group D of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and will face England on June 9, followed by Japan on June 14 and finishing the group stage against Argentina on June 19.
Corsie is expected to return prior to the end of the 2019 NWSL regular season.
“Corsie plays a big role on and off the field for the Scottish National Team in this historic trip to the World Cup,” Utah Royals FC General Manager Stephanie Lee said. “She is smart, determined and hard working – We look forward to seeing her on the world stage this summer.”
She has appeared in 108 matches for Scotland and has scored 16 goals, including three goals in the 2011 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
“It is beyond imagination and truly something that is the greatest privilege,” Corsie said. “It is the highlight of my career to be selected to represent Scotland at a World Cup and I’m so proud of every player who has been involved to get us there. I hope that every one of us can enjoy the experience as much as possible and we do everyone back home and in the stands proud too.”
Corsie has played every minute this season for the Royals thus far, playing in 360 minutes in four matches. She becomes the fifth player from the Royals to officially be named to a World Cup roster. Canada has two Royals players on their preliminary roster, but has yet to announce the squad they will be taking to France. The Real Salt Lake organization expects to have 7 players playing in the Women’s World Cup.
