Ashley Farquharson Starts Strong, Looks For Medal In Luge Singles

MILAN, Italy — Park City native Ashley Farquharson opened her second Olympic Games with the Luge Women’s Singles event on Monday.
After the first two runs, she sat in fifth with a chance to medal in runs three and four on Tuesday.
Ashley Farquharson Leads Team USA In Luge Singles
On her first run of the Milano Cortina games, Farquharson put together a very respectable time of 52.862 seconds.
Her start was 3.981 seconds, and she reached a top speed of 76.55 miles per hour.
That time was the fastest of any U.S. racer in the first run, and put her at fourth on the leaderboard. She came in 0.272 seconds slower than Germany’s Merle Malou Fraebel.

Farquharson’s second run was a bit uncharacteristic.
She improved on her start, but couldn’t match her previous top speed, which had her finish time about a tenth of a second slower.
Still, that only had her drop one spot on the leaderboard and kept her medal hopes alive for day two.
