SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles said that he’s “all in” on competing for the Australian National Team in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Jazzman recently responded to a tweet from a fan who said, “Selfishly I wish you’d stay and rest up,” rather than spend the NBA offseason playing for the Boomers in the Olympics.

“No chance,” Ingles replied. “I’m all in with my Aussie guys.”

The Tokyo Games will be the Australian forward’s fourth Olympics. He played for the Boomers during the Summer Olympics in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Ingles last played for the Australian National Team during the 2019 FIBA World Cup. During that international competition, Ingles averaged 10.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per contest.

During the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Ingles recorded 7.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.

In international play, Ingles has helped the Boomers win three medals, including a pair of gold medals from the FIBA Oceania Championship tournament.

The Tokyo Games are slated to begin on July 23 and will close on August 8.

Ingles’ Jazz season

The forward and the Jazz recently completed their 2020-21 season with a loss in the Western Conference Semifinals of the NBA Playoffs.

In his end-of-season interview with the media, Ingles said he planned on improving his game during the offseason.

”No doubt in my mind that I’ll come back better,” the Jazzman said. “It’s what I’ve done every year since I’ve been over here.”

Ingles finished his seventh season in the league averaging 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.

His 12.1 points per contest tied his career-high for a season. Ingles shot a career-best 48.9 percent from the field, including 45.1 percent on three-pointers.
