Three Locals Qualify For Final In Men’s Freeski Slopestyle

MILAN, Italy — In the Men’s Freeski Slopestyle qualification, all four members of Team USA have ties to the state of Utah, and all four put on a show in front of the Olympic crowd on Saturday.
Alex Hall, Konnor Ralph, and Mac Forehand all currently live and train in Utah. Troy Podmilsak was born and raised in Park City.
Team USA Takes On Livigno Olympic Slopestyle Course
Run One
The first American to hit the course was Forehand.
His run started with a relatively sloppy performance on the rails. A right-side Double Cork 1260 with a Blunt grab in section four and a nose-blunt take-off into a left-side Double Cork 1260 with a Japan grab allowed him to post a 44.68. Although not great, it was a solid safety run with plenty of room to improve upon with his second run.

Next was Hall, the reigning gold medalist in the event from the 2022 games in Beijing.
He posted an extremely solid first run, completing a left-side Double Cork 1620 Mute grab, a switch Left-side Double Cork 1440 Japan grab, and a complex combo air on the third jump.
That series of tricks earned him a 71.63 score.
Following up was Podmilsak. An early mistake scrapped his first run, and he looked forward to his second after posting a 30.90 score.
Last but not least was Ralph. His highest score came on the third rail, where he nailed a switch left-side 270-on into a backside 810-off. After ending with a right-side Double Cork 1440 Civil grab, the judges gave Ralph a 68.91.
Run Two
Kicking off the second round of runs, Forehand did exactly what was needed to crack into the top 12.
Most notably, on the second jump, he executed a switch left-side Triple Cork 1620 Mute grab. That trick alone gained him nine points. The entire run was given a 73.96, placing him comfortably above the cut line.
Hall’s second run was comparable to his first. After ending with a switch right-side tail-block Double Cork 900 into a Backside 720 Japan grab, his run was scored a 68.98. His first run was the one taken, as it came in about 2.5 points higher.

Podmilsak’s second run, unfortunately, mirrored his first. A poor landing had him take a brief seat in the snow, and that was enough to derail the rest of the run and leave him out of the final.
Heading into his second run, Ralph sat in ninth, hoping for some extra points to create a cushion. At this point in the competition, minor mistakes were put under a microscope as quality runs continued to pour in. With a miss on a grab attempt, Ralph was given a 50.15 and had to keep his first-round score.
Ultimately, it ended up being enough. Forehand, Hall, and Ralph all finished inside of the top ten.
