Mia Manganello Earns Bronze In Women’s Speed Skating Mass Start

MILAN, Italy – Salt Lake City resident Mia Manganello finished with a thrill in her last Winter Olympics appearance, earning Bronze in the women’s mass start speed skating final.

University of Utah student Great Myers finished 12th in the final race.

Marijke Groenewoud from Netherland’s won Gold, followed by Canada’s Ivanie Blondin with Silver.

Mia Manganello

Mia Manganello took the ice in semifinald one against 14 other skaters.

The World No. 1 earned three points early in the race before finishing third overall for 23 points.

She easily advanced to the mass start final with the third-best score.

Greta Myers

University of Utah student Greta Myers opened up a big lead early in the race.

It allowed her to gain three sprint points, halfway to the six needed to advance.

The massive energy burn saw Myers quickly fall near the back of the pack. She struggled to regain her speed, finishing eighth as the final qualifier.

Women’s Speed Skating Mass Start Final

The first three laps saw the field stay tightly packed before Austria’s Jeannine Rosner briefly pulled ahead.

Myers and Manganello held in the middle of the group.

Nobody truly separated over the first 12 laps.

The Team USA duo teamed up to put Manganello in position for a late push.

Manganello held second with one lap remaining.

She fell back in the last sprint, earning Bronze in her final Olympic race.

Myers finished 12th.
