HOUSTON, Texas – Utah Royals FC forward Christen Press scored twice in the first half against Costa Rica Monday night. The goals came in the U.S. Women’s National Team’s Olympic qualifying match in Group A.

Press’ first goal came in the 4th minute. She took the ball off a header, dribbled into the middle of the pitch before cutting the ball back onto her left foot and curling the ball into the upper 90 at the far post. The goal opened the scoring for the match at 1-0.

Press’ second goal came at the 36th minute mark. Playing on the left side, Press showcased her speed by playing the ball forward, going around the defender, and shooting to the far post again. The ball found the net for the USWNT’s third goal of the night.

Press has now scored five goals in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

She also added an assist on the United States’ fourth goal, a set piece from just outside the box.

The U.S. won the match 6-0, claiming the top spot in Group A. They’ll play the winner from Group B on Friday night in the semifinals in Carson, California.

The top two finishers in the tournament will earn the region’s berths in the Tokyo Games this summer.
