Spanish Fork quarterback Parker Swensen looking to throw a pass against the Ogden Tigers in the first round of the 4A Football State Tournament in Spanish Fork, Utah.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The first round of the 4A UHSAA football state tournament is in the books. Sixteen teams competed in the first round, only eight teams clinched a berth into the second round.

The Results For 4A

Region 10 No. 2-seed Spanish Fork Dons 58

Region 11 No. 3-seed Ogden Tigers 22

Ogden scored all of their 22 points in the fourth quarter but Spanish Fork scored all 58 points in the first three quarters. Spanish Fork quarterback Parker Swensen accounted for five touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground.

Region 11 No. 2-seed Park City Miners 28

Region 10 No. 3-seed Salem Hills Skyhawks 24

Park City wide receiver Mark McCurdy caught two touchdown passes to lead the Miners to the second round. Salem Hills led 14-7 after the first quarter of play before Park City scored 14 points, holding the Skyhawks to just 3 points in the second quarter.

Region 12 No. 1-seed Sky View Bobcats 61

Region 9 No. 4 Snow Canyon Warriors 21

Sky View started the route over Snow Canyon with a 97-yard kick return for a touchdown by Caleb Christensen. The Bobcats held a 47-14 lead at the half. Sky View quarterback Mason Falslev accounted for five total touchdowns, three through the air and two on the ground.

Region 9 No. 1-seed Dixie Flyers 42

Region 12 No. 4-seed Green Canyon Wolves 21

Dixie jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first half, before the Wolves answered with a 21-point third quarter. The comeback wasn’t enough as Dixie scored a touchdown in the third and fourth quarter to pull out the win. Flyers quarterback Reggie Graff found the end zone twice on the ground and added another score through the air.

Region 9 No. 2-seed Desert Hills Thunder 31

Region 12 No. 3-seed Mountain Crest Mustangs 24

Mountain Crest outscored Desert Hills 24-10 through three quarters. The Thunder’s attempt at a comeback fell short after scoring two late touchdowns. Mustangs quarterback Brady Hall threw one touchdown pass and ran in two more scores to lead Mountain Crest to the second round.

Region 10 No. 1-seed Orem Tigers 68

Region 11 No. 4-seed Tooele Buffalo 12

Orem scored all 68 points before Tooele answered with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Tigers quarterback Cooper Legas threw two touchdown passes and ran in another to help Orem to a dominating first round win.

Region 11 No. 1-seed Stansbury Stallions 57

Region 10 No. 4-seed Mountain View Bruins 43

Stansbury led 29-22 to start the fourth quarter before they scored four touchdowns and Mountain View added three scores in the final period. Stansbury running back Kaeden Kincaid had three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Jet Richins added two scores to lead the Stallions to the win.

Region 9 No. 3-seed Pine View Panthers 68

Region 12 No. 2-seed Logan Grizzlies 50

Pine View trailed by one point after three quarters, 42-41. They outscored Logan 27-8 to pick up the win. Panthers quarterback Dallin Brown and running back Tosh Wright combined for 9 touchdowns to help Pine View to an upset victory.
