Playoffs Second Round: 6A Utah High School Football Recap

SALT LAKE CITY — The No. 7 American Fork Cavemen squeaked out a one-point win over the No. 10 Lehi Pioneers in the second round of the 6A high school football on Friday.

Lehi’s Legend Glasker did his best to keep the Pioneers in it, running in both of the team’s touchdowns in the first half.

On the other side, quarterback Nate Childs also had two scores, and it was the third to Christian Hanshaw that would ultimately prove to be the difference in the 21-20 win.

American Fork will face No. 2 Skyridge on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.

Second Round Recap For 6A Utah High School Football Playoffs

No. 16 Layton Lancers 9 @ No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers 63

Corner Canyon jumped out to a 56-3 halftime advantage before putting it in cruise control for a 54-point win. Charger wideout Kai Meza scored three first-quarter touchdowns, including two TD receptions from Helaman Casuga. Casuga finished the day with four touchdown passes.

Mason Condiff scored Layton’s only touchdown.

Corner Canyon will face No. 8 Syracuse on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.

No. 13 Riverton Silverwolves 21 @ No. 4 Mountain Ridge Sentinels 35

The Sentinels won a game that featured five defensive touchdowns, including two by Mountain Ridge’s Cutler Whitaker. Mountain Ridge opened the scoring when Jaxon Hunt found Kohen Cunningham for a 69-yard touchdown.

Mountain Ridge will face No. 5 Herriman on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.

No. 12 Weber Warriors 32 @ No. 5 Herriman Mustangs 62

Herriman scored 42 unanswered first-half points to stay in the 6A playoffs. Tyler Messer accounted for a quartet of Mustang touchdowns, including two passing scores and two TD catches. Izaac Larson scored two second-half TDs for Herriman.

Creed Devries found the endzone twice for Weber.

Herriman will face No. 13 Riverton/No. 4 Mountain Ridge on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.

No. 15 Copper Hills Grizzlies 3 @ No. 2 Skyridge Falcons 63

The Falcon defense struck first with a 34-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Suka Finau. Skyridge amassed a 42-3 halftime lead on the back of three Kaneel Sweetwyne touchdowns. Talmage Oswald caught two TD passes. Backup QB Jagger Fountaine tossed two touchdown passes in mop-up time.

Skyridge will face No. 7 American Fork on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.

No. 14 Bingham Miners 21 @ No. 3 Davis Darts 42

Recently reunited with the college recruiting scene, Dart’s QB Tradon Bessinger threw six touchdown passes in a decisive Davis victory. Isaac Morrison caught three TDs, with a long of 69 yards early for the team’s final score.

Teki Finau scored two rushing touchdowns for the Miners.

Davis will face No. 6 Lone Peak on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.

No. 11 Farmington Phoenix 14 @ No. 6 Lone Peak Knights 41

Lone Peak never trailed in a decisive second-round win. Tevita Mounga gave the Knights an early 7-0 lead when he returned an interception 55 yards for a pick six. Kepa Niumeitolu threw three touchdown passes and ran four another to lead his team in a blowout.

Drew Love scored two rushing touchdowns for the Phoenix.

Lone Peak will face No. 3 Davis on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.
