SALT LAKE CITY – The Corner Canyon Chargers were no match for the St. Frances Academy defense in a 37-20 loss.

No. 22 Corner Canyon, the back-to-back-to-back 6A Utah state champions, struggled all night as the Panthers piled up points in the blowout.

First Quarter

St. Frances won the coin toss, opting to defer and give the Chargers possession first.

The teams traded three-and-outs to begin the night.

The game’s first big play was when St. Frances returned a punt inside the red zone with just over four minutes left in the opening quarter.

The Panthers reached the end zone on 2nd and 5 with an 11-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open tight end in the middle of the field.

Texas A&M commit Helaman Casuga answered with three complete passes that moved the Chargers into positive territory.

It was all for naught when Casuga was caught from behind and fumbled with a recovery by St. Frances.

The Chargers trailed 7-0 after one period.

Second Quarter

Casuga and Briggs hooked up in the flat, and Briggs picked up 50 yards before being pushed out of bounds. The play set the Chargers up in the red zone for the first time.

Corner Canyon came up empty when a field goal attempt sailed wide right.

A massive gain from St. Frances RB Jaylen Burke on the ground set the stage for another scoring chance.

Burke scored two plays later to give his team a 14-0 advantage.

Following a change of possession, St. Frances marched down the field before scoring a third touchdown to take a 21-0 lead with 1:56 left in the half.

The Panthers controlled the first 24 minutes, making the three-time defending state champion Chargers look overmatched in every facet, and fell behind 21-0.

Third Quarter

St. Frances used exactly half of the third period on a touchdown drive to open a 28-0 lead with 6:00 left in the quarter.

Corner Canyon answered with its third red zone drive of the night before turning the football over on downs.

The Chargers broke through in the final minute of the quarter when the St. Frances punter fumbled the snap, and it was recovered in the end zone by Corner Canyon’s Eli Borg.

CC trailed 28-7 after three quarters.

Fourth Quarter

St. Frances’ second turnover came on an interception deep in the Charger defensive end early in the period. It was senior DB  Jaoquin Rodriguez who came down with the pick.

The Panthers’ defense responded with a safety, increasing its lead to 30-7.

The advantage grew to 30 when St. Frances returned the ensuing kick for a touchdown.

Corner Canyon senior QB Bronson Evans relieved Casuga for the final 12 minutes.

Evans led his team on a touchdown drive, finding Lucas Jackson for a touchdown that made it 37-14 St. Frances.

The Chargers took advantage of a new rule in this game, converting a 4th-and-15 for a first down rather than taking the chance with an onside kick.

Corner Canyon eventually gave the ball back on downs following a drive-ending sack.

The Chargers scored a late touchdown, but lost 37-20.

2025 Utah 6A State Championship

No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers 35 vs. No. 6 Lone Peak Knights 20

For the third season in a row, the Corner Canyon Chargers reign supreme in the 6A classification. On Thursday afternoon, they got revenge against the Lone Peak Knights, the team that had handed them their sole loss in 2025.

The first three quarters were highly competitive. A dominant run game from both sides resulted in back-and-forth action. The first four touchdowns all came on the ground and each from a different player. With about a minute left in the third quarter, Lone Peak led 20-14.

But then, the Corner Canyon avalanche started. Senior back Weston Briggs punched in three straight touchdowns over 10 minutes of game time. During this same stretch, the Knights’ offense stalled.

In the span of one quarter, the script flipped from a doubled-down upset to the dynasty reignited. The win makes it five state championships for the Chargers.
