Primetime Performer: Scotty Edwards Scored Five Touchdowns In First Half

Aug 22, 2019, 12:19 PM

HOLLADAY, Utah – Good luck finding anyone who started their football season better than Scotty Edwards from Olympus High School.

The senior had five touchdowns in a 59-0 win over a new school – Mountain Ridge to open the season.

Oh yeah, they all came in the first half too.

“It’s definitely the best first half I’ve ever played,” said Edwards. “It was super fun.”

Edwards finished the game with four carries for 125 yards and three rushing touchdowns, one catch for 59 yards that he took to the house, an interception that he returned 38 yards for a touchdown, and a sack. Safe to say he had a pretty good week.

“That was quite the performance,” said Head Coach Aaron Whitehead. “He has breakaway speed and such a nice stride – its difficult to bring him down. Its fun to watch him run.”

Even though he filled up the box score, the win came with a team effort.

“His teammates really helped him out, a great job by the offensive line,” said Whitehead. “For the pick-six, it was a great job by the defensive line putting pressure on the quarterback. Great team win, but Scotty sure is special.”

This team has big goals.

Improving On Last Year’s Run

After a 12-0 start to 2018, the Titans’ season came to an end in the state semifinals against eventual champion, Corner Canyon.

This year, they have their eyes set on a state championship and Edwards will be a big part of their success.

“He picked up where he left off,” said Whitehead. “We have a good group of seniors this year, all with great leadership. We’re pleased to have these kids and Scotty is a good leader on this team.”

Last year’s loss has driven the team during the offseason.

“Everyone’s been working hard,” said Edwards. “Losing to Corner Canyon was super tough for everybody. Our goal this year is to play in the state championship and hopefully win – we’ve all been grinding to get there.

Now that the season is here, it’s time to put that hard work to the test.

“I can say with confidence that they put in the work,” said Whitehead. “They have a goal, they want to reach that goal, and they’re going to do everything they can to reach that goal.”
