Local high school football trench players compete at ‘Utah Ballers’ camp

HERRIMAN – When most high school students are getting anxious for summer break to get started later this month, high school football athletes view this time of the calendar as an opportunity to put in work.

Utah Ballers is an organization that provides opportunities for young gridiron standouts to compete.

They host various camps, from skills to the trenches, with a desire to “connect prospects with college programs through merit-based promotion, evaluated competition, and college-level training.”

Earlier this week, they hosted a “Trench Warfare” camp at Providence Hall High School, the second trench camp this calendar year.

The first was in February, which helped catapult some recruits to add more offers. Maple Mountain EDGE rusher Uhila Wolfgramm is an example of that.

Wolfgramm began adding offers from Michigan and Oklahoma, in addition to longstanding offers from in-state powers BYU and Utah, after a strong performance at Utah Ballers.

With the NCAA recruiting contact period still active, college coaches from Pac-12 and FCS programs were in attendance to watch the local players compete.

Among the coaches for the Utah Ballers “Trench Warfare” camp was former Outland Trophy winner at BYU and Super Bowl Champion Jason Buck.

The state of Utah is known for producing quality offensive and defensive linemen. Where it has improved over the years is the depth.

Coaches such as Buck and the rest of the staff put together a “Top-10” of performers for both the offensive and defensive lines, along with MVPs.

The players participated in positional drills and 1-on-1 battles between the offensive and defensive lines.

The MVPs from the one-day camp were the following:

• Malakai Leilua – Westlake, 2028: Defensive line MVP

Leilua recently received an offer from Utah State, along with offers from Pac-12 programs Boise State and San Diego State.
