SLCC Men’s Soccer Wins NJCAA National Championship, Women Finish Runner-Up

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake Community College Bruins defeated Iowa Western to win their first NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.

No. 2 seed SLCC beat No. 1 Iowa Western for the title on Thursday, June 10.
The Bruins captured the trophy with a 2-1 victory in overtime.
It’s SLCC’s first NJCAA DI title in men’s soccer.
“I’m speechless at the magnitude of this moment,” SLCC head coach Mark Davis said of the win. “This win is the perfect end to what has been a challenging year for our entire campus, and especially our athletic department. Our players never quit believing in themselves and our program.”

Bruins Men’s Soccer
With the match knotted up a one goal apiece, the Bruins’ Paul Richnow knocked in a header in the 95th minute of action to beat the Reivers, 2-1.
Richnow was awarded Most Valuable Player for his performance.
The goal gave Salt Lake its first title in only the program’s fifth season of play.
“All season long, our players practiced and trained for moments like this,” Davis said. “We pushed ourselves to be prepared to handle opportunities like this, and (Richnow) delivered when his opportunity came in overtime.

Bruins Women’s Soccer
In addition to coaching SLCC’s men’s soccer team to a title, Davis led the school’s women’s soccer team to the national championship game.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, the women’s soccer club fell short of a title.
SLCC’s women’s soccer team fell, 2-0, to Tyler on June 9.

SLCC is hosting a welcome back event in celebration of the championship. The celebration will take place north of the Lifetime Activities Center at the SLCC Taylorsville-Redwood Campus on Friday, June 11 at 5:50 p.m. (MDT).
