SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Portland Timbers forward Dairon Asprilla scored a remarkable goal from outside the box to deliver arguably the goal of the year in MLS.

Asprilla’s 55th-minute goal was the second of the night for the Timbers who comfortably beat San Jose 2-0 at Providence Park. The win further solidified the Timbers in fourth place in a tightly contested Western Conference.

The goal came from a mistake by Earthquakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski who came off his line in an attempt to secure the loose ball, but after muffling the ball it fell to the feet of Asprilla who had his back to the goal. Without hesitation, Asprilla kicked the ball into the air before leaping, kicking the ball over his head, landing on his back, as the ball took one bounce before rattling the back of the net.
Remarkably, Asprilla’s goal was not the only cracking finish of the night.
Lucas Zelarayán of the Colombus Crew scored an absolute worldie in the 61st minute to gift the Crew all three points in a nail-biting 3-2 win over Orlando City S.C.
