Instant Replay: Squirrel Causes Delay In Minor League Baseball Game

SALT LAKE CITY – The Columbus Clippers experienced a delay that could only happen in minor league baseball as a squirrel got onto the field, evading capture for several minutes.
The particularly precocious rodent made its way onto the playing field during the fifth inning of a Columbus Clippers-Buffalo Bisons Triple-A baseball game on Saturday, May 28.

Players, coaches and the Clippers ground crew joined in on the chase, attempting to use whatever resources were available to them to trap the animal.
Clippers play by play man Ryan Mitchell tried to narrate the scene for fans, “This squirrel is in a heck of a way. The grounds crew, the bullpen… everybody is trying to corral this beast,” Mitchell said through his own laughter.

After herding the squirrel out to the warning track, a group of grounds keepers armed with buckets and a net tried to form a wall, forcing the squirrel toward an exit. After a series of zigs and zags by the elusive creature, a brave grounds keeper took matters into his own hands, literally, by grabbing the animal with his bare hands.
As the triumphant team of squirrel wranglers left the field, Mitchell put everything into perspective, “He’s gonna need a tetanus shot.”
No squirrels were harmed in the filming of this video… Probably.
