SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Jazzman Joe Johnson has taken the Big3 by storm and looks to be the early MVP favorite after carrying the Triplets to a 3-0 start.

The Big3 is in their third season, founded by icon rapper Ice Cube, which features three-on-three basketball with players that had successful careers in the NBA or overseas.

They have 8 teams, which includes 3 Headed Monsters, Trilogy, Power, 3’s Company, Bivouac, Enemies, Aliens, Triplets, Killer 3s, Tri-State, Ghost Ballers and Ball Hogs.

Johnson had 26 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and hit three 3-pointers in the Triplets 51-45 win over Bivouac.

The game does not have a time limit with the first team to score 25 points will send the game to halftime and the first team to score 50 points will win the game, but they have to win by two points.

Nine players play for the Big3 that have either played for the Utah Jazz at some point in their career, the Salt Lake City Stars and one player played one season at Weber State.

Here is how those players performed in the third week of the Big3 season:

Andre Owens, Aliens (1-2)

Owens dropped 9 points for the Aliens as they beat the Ball Hogs 51-39. He added 6 rebounds and 1 assist. Owens played for the Jazz in the 2005-06 season.

The Aliens will face the Enemies (2-1) in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday at 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

Brandon Rush, Aliens (1-2)

Rush was the second leading scorer with 13 points to go with his 12 rebounds and 1 steal in the Aliens’ 51-39 win over the Ball Hogs. He spent the 2013-14 season with the Jazz. Greg Oden led the way with 18 points and 4 rebounds.

The Aliens will face the Enemies (2-1) in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday at 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

DeShawn Stevenson, Ball Hogs (0-3)

Stevenson led the Ball Hogs with 20 of their 39 points as they fell to the Aliens 51-39. He added 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while connecting on 4 three-pointers. The Jazz drafted Stevenson with the 23rd overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. He played with the Jazz until 2004.

The Ball Hogs will challenge 3’s Company (0-3) in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday at 10 a.m. on CBS.

Jermaine Taylor, Ball Hogs (0-3)

Taylor did not play in the Ball Hogs’ 51-39 loss to Aliens as he is dealing with an injury. He played for the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz’s G-League affiliate from 2016-18.

The Ball Hogs will challenge 3’s Company (0-3) in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday at 10 a.m. on CBS.

Carlos Boozer, Ghost Ballers (2-1)

Boozer did not play in the Ghost Ballers 51-35 loss to the Enemies. Ricky Davis led the team with 13 points, while Mike Taylor added 10 points. Craig Smith scored 23 points for Enemies with Gilbert Arenas chipping in 12 points. Boozer played for the Jazz from 2004-10.

The Ghost Ballers will take on Power (2-1) on Saturday in Providence, Rhode Island at 11 a.m. on CBS.

Franklin Sessions, Killer 3’s (3-0)

Sessions had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 block in the Killer 3’s 51-48 win over the 3 Headed Monsters. Stephen Jackson led the team with 22 points, while Donte Greene added 13. Mario Chalmers and Rashard Lewis led 3’s Company with 16 points apiece. Sessions played one season with Weber State in 2010 with Damian Lillard.

Killer 3’s will face Trilogy (1-2) on Sunday in Brooklyn, New York at 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

Carlos Arroyo, Trilogy (1-2)

Arroyo scored 2 points in Trilogy’s 50-43 win over Power. David Hawkins led the team with 21 points. Arroyo spent three years in Salt Lake City in a Jazz uniform.

Trilogy will face Killer 3’s (3-0) in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday at 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

Al Jefferson, Triplets (3-0)

Jefferson recorded 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal to help Joe Johnson and the Triplets beat Bivouac to remain undefeated. Jefferson played for the Jazz from 2010-13.
