Local Athletes React To News Of Utah’s 5.7-Magnitude Earthquake

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Players on teams from around the state of Utah posted their reactions to Utah’s 5.7-magnitude earthquake on social media.

Utahns including professional and collegiate athletes felt the early morning quake that occurred near Salt Lake City just after 7 a.m. (MDT) on Wednesday, March 18.

Players from the Utah Jazz, Real Salt Lake, and the Utah Utes football team shared their initial reactions to the earthquake on social media minutes after the tremors.

Utah Jazz

Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell tweeted about the earthquake writing, “Earthquake in Utah???!?! Y’all please stay safe out there.”

Jazzman Joe Ingles asked, “Yooo did anyone else feel that?” Ingles also said that his “whole house shook like crazy” during his first experience with an earthquake.

Utah’s leading scorer from the second unit, Jordan Clarkson, tweeted, “earthquake was crazyyyyy!”

Jazz starting forward Royce O’Neale posted, “Yooo was that an earthquake?” as well as “Dawggg that was so crazy, the whole house was shaking and woke me up outta my sleep!!” and “these aftershocks gotta chill man.”

Utah’s backup center Tony Bradley tweeted, “That earthquake just now shook me outta sleep!”

Real Salt Lake

Former RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando asked if everyone was okay and wrote, “That was wild, 5.7 earthquake in SLC. Be safe.”

Real Salt Lake forward Justin Meram posted, “First experience in my life and I was terrified.”

RSL’s official Twitter account tweeted, “Hope everyone is ok after this morning’s earthquake.”

Utah Utes

Utah wide receiver Britain Covey posed the question, “Did Coach Whitt just flex his calves?” after feeling the earthquake.
