Snow College Remains Top JUCO, Division II School In Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Snow College remains on top in the JUCO and Division II in-state Power Rankings.

They hit 21 three-pointers in their 20-point home win over Salt Lake Community College. The Badgers are in first place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a 4-2 conference record.

Dixie State swept their second straight week and have won their last four games.

Here is the third edition of the KSL Sports Division II and JUCO Utah College Basketball Power Rankings from games played from Monday, January 21 to Sunday, January 27.

1. Snow College Badgers (19-5, 4-2 SWAC)

Wins: vs. Salt Lake Community College

Losses: at College of Southern Idaho

Recap: In their 91-71 loss on the road against College of Southern Idaho, the Badgers scored just 28 points in the first half and allowed CSI to drop 43. That was the difference in the game. Jake Walker led Snow College with 13 points, Stockton Shorts and Brantzen Blackner each scored 10 points.

Scoring wasn’t an issue against Salt Lake Community College as the Badgers exploded for 108 points in their 20-point win. They hit 21-of-37 from downtown for 56 percent. Blackner led the team with 21 points, making 6-of-7 from deep, Logan Hokanson added 20 points, including 4-of-6 from three.

2. Salt Lake Community College Bruins (16-6, 3-3 SWAC)

Wins: vs. Colorado Northwestern Community College

Losses: at Snow College

Recap: The Bruins snapped a two game losing streak with a 102-85 win over CNCC. They held a 52-38 advantage in the first half before coasting to the win. Matt Lindsey scored 24 points off the bench on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. Hunter Schofield chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds, Cameron Mack notched a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists.

SLCC couldn’t shut down the three-point shot for the Snow College Badgers as they hit 21 threes for 56 percent. It’s their second straight loss to Snow. Mack led the Bruins with 16 points, while Asa McCord posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

3. Utah State University Eastern Eagles (15-8, 3-2 SWAC)

Losses: at Colorado Northwestern Community College

Recap: The Eagles lost their second straight game when they fell to CNCC 85-70 on the road. The game was tied at 32 at halftime but USU Eastern was outscored 53-38 in the second half. Blaze Nield had a great game with 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field.

4. Dixie State Trailblazers (9-8, 7-6 RMAC)

Wins: at Colorado Mesa, at Western Colorado

Recap: The Trailblazers dominated Colorado Mesa 86-61 on the road. Wade Miller scored 17 points off the bench, while Dub Price chipped in 14 points.

In their 96-91 win over Western Colorado, Dixie State scored 25 points in overtime to pick up the win. Matt Conway dropped 30 points to lead the Trailblazers. Andre Wilson tallied 14 points and Price poured in 12 points off the bench.

5. Westminster Griffins (7-10, 5-8 RMAC)

Wins: at Western State Colorado University

Losses: at Colorado Mesa University

Recap: The Griffins snapped a two game losing streak with a 77-72 road win over Western State Colorado University. After trailing by five points at the half, Westminster outscored WSCU 45-35 in the second half. Brandon Warr had 24 points and 9 rebounds with Jacob McCord scoring 14 points and pulling down 9 boards.

Colorado Mesa controlled most of the game in their 79-59 win over the Griffins. Warr, Jake Connor and Joonas Tahvanainen each scored 11 points to lead Westminster.
