Snow College Wins 4th Straight; Tops In-State JUCO, D-II Power Rankings

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Snow College has won four straight games, including a big win at Salt Lake Community College to remain on top of the JUCO and Division II in-state Power Rankings for the fifth straight week.

SLCC had a big win on the road against No. 11 College of Southern Idaho but couldn’t get past Snow at home.

The schools in the state went 6-3 during the past week.

Dixie State has 10 straight games and are now in third place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic standings, just one game behind Regis, who they will face on Friday. They also moved up to No. 3 in the in-state power rankings.

It’s the last week of the regular season for the junior college teams and only three games remain for the Division II teams.

Here is the sixth edition of the KSL Sports Division II and JUCO Utah College Basketball Power Rankings from games played from Monday, February 11 to Sunday, February 17.

1. Snow College Badgers (23-6, 8-3 SWAC)

Wins: at Utah State University Eastern, at Salt Lake Community College

Recap: Snow had a great week with two wins on the road against good teams. The Badgers started by beat USU Eastern 73-63 in Price, Utah. The Eagles held a one point lead at halftime before Snow outscored USU Eastern 45-34 in the second half. Logan Hokanson had 21 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Badgers. Truman Moore added 14 points and 7 rebounds, Jake Walker chipped in 12 points.

In their 96-87 win at Salt Lake Community College, Snow had a commanding 53-39 lead at halftime but the Bruins didn’t go away as they cut the lead to six points with 7 minutes left the Badgers held off for the win. Brayden Johnson scored 16 points to lead the team. Moore poured in 15 points, while Darrian Nebeker had 14 points. Snow College has won their last four games.

2. Salt Lake Community College Bruins (19-8, 6-5 SWAC)

Wins: at No. 11 College of Southern Idaho, vs. Snow College

Recap: The Bruins picked up a massive win on the road against No. 11 College of Southern Idaho 70-68. SLCC was down by one with 12 seconds left when Cameron Mack hit two free-throws to take the lead. CSI couldn’t hit the potential game-winning shot and Matt Lindsey sealed the win with one made free throw. Mack finished with a game-high 26 points, Josh Colon poured in 23 points to have the duo combined for 49 of the Bruins’ 70 points.

SLCC had to climb back into the game after trailing by 14 points at halftime but came up short, falling to Snow College 96-87 on “Sophomore Night.” Colon led the Bruins with 25 points, Hunter Schofield added 18 points and Lindsey chipped in 16 points off the bench.

3. Dixie State Trailblazers (15-8, 13-6 RMAC)

Wins: at Adams State, at Fort Lewis

Recap: Dixie State has played their final road games of the regular season, with the last three games in St. George.

The Trailblazers handled Adams State 93-63 after outscoring ASU 45-29 in the first half and 51-34 in the second half. Matt Conway dropped 34 points and 6 rebounds on 13-of-19 shooting from the field. Zach Frampton added 14 points and 5 rebounds for Dixie State.

In their 63-50 win over Fort Lewis, Dixie State did most of the damage in the first half by outscoring Fort Lewis 37-26. Conway was the only DSU player to score in double figures with 22 points. The Trailblazers have won their last 10 games.

4. Utah State University Eastern Eagles (16-12, 4-6 SWAC)

Losses: vs. Snow College

Recap: Despite having a one-point lead at the half, the Eagles couldn’t overcome the second half surge by Snow College as they lost to the Badgers 73-63. Only two players for USU Eastern scored in double figures, led by Blaze Nield with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Tanner Nygren added 14 points off the bench.

5. Westminster Griffins (9-12, 7-10 RMAC)

Losses: at Fort Lewis, at Adams State

Recap: Westminster outscored Fort Lewis 37-30 in the first half but their defense couldn’t hold serve as they were outscored 44-30 in the second half to suffer a 74-67 loss. Former Ute Jake Connor led the way with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-for-6 from downtown. Brandon Warr chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds for the Griffins.

Against Adams State, Westminster had a six point lead early in the game but Adams State took over to defeat the Griffins 90-72. Joonas Tahvanainen scored 21 points and pulled down 7 rebounds to lead Westminster. Connor poured in 15 points and Warr added 13 points.
