Stallions In Need Of Win Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Two teams have just one win on the season and look to climb up the standings against each other in Salt Lake City.
The Orlando Apollos are the only team remaining in the Alliance of American Football and remain on top of the Power Rankings with a 5-0 record.
The Birmingham Iron have lost two straight since starting the season with three straight wins.
Here is the KSL Sports AAF Power Rankings from the fifth week of the season:
1. Orlando Apollos (5-0)
Result: Defeated Birmingham Iron 31-14 on the road.
Recap: Orlando had control of the game from the opening snap as they scored 17 unanswered points before taking a 20-8 lead at halftime. Birmingham scored a touchdown in the third quarter to make it a six-point lead for the Apollos, but the home team scored 11 points after and took the win.
Former SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert led Orlando with 286 passing yards and 2 touchdown. Running back De’Veon Smith racked up 119 yards on 14 carries. Wide receiver Charles Johnson collected 6 receptions for 83 yards and 1 touchdown.

2. San Antonio Commanders (3-2)
Result: Defeated Arizona Hotshots 29-25 on the road.
Recap: San Antonio had a tremendous start to the game as they had a 66-yard interception returned for a touchdown. They followed up with a 54-yard touchdown pass. At halftime, the Commanders were up 26-0. Arizona scored 11 unanswered points before San Antonio scored a field goal midway through the fourth quarter. The Hotshots scored a touchdown with 1:20 left to cut the lead to four, but couldn’t get the ball back.
Former Toledo quarterback Logan Woodside had 290 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Running back Kenneth Farrow II had racked up 25 yards and one touchdown. Defensive back Derron Smith had two interceptions, including one for a touchdown to start the game.

3. San Diego Fleet (3-2)
Result: Defeated Salt Lake Stallions 27-25 at home.
Recap: The Fleet trailed 11-6, midway through the third quarter. They forced two turnovers that turned into touchdowns. With 9 minutes left in the game, San Diego had a 24-11 lead, before the Stallions took a one-point lead with under one minute remaining. The Fleet hit a 44-yard field goal as time expired to win the game.
Former Arizona State quarterback Mike Bercovici had 304 yards passing, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Wide receiver Dontez Ford hauled in 94 yards receiving on just 3 catches. Linebacker Frank Ginda was all over the place as the racked up 9 tackles.

4. Birmingham Iron (3-2)
Result: Lost to Orlando Apollos 31-14 at home.
Recap: Birmingham had a slow start as they had to crawl back from a 17-0 deficit. They were able to cut the lead to six late in the third but they couldn’t score in the final quarter.
Former Washington quarterback Keith Price had 234 yards passing and 1 touchdown, while former No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson had just 21 rushing yards and 1 touchdown, while hauling in 4 receptions for 37 yards.

5. Arizona Hotshots (2-3)
Result: Lost to San Antonio Commanders 29-25 at home.
Recap: The Hotshots outscored San Antonio 25-3 in the second half, but they were down 26-0 to start the first half.
Quarterback John Wolford threw for 246 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Wide receiver Rashad Ross grabbed 5 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. Running back Tim Cook tallied 33 yards rushing and 1 touchdown on 12 attempts. Linebacker Nyles Morgan had 12 tackles to lead the defense.

Result: Defeated Memphis Express 23-20 at home.
Recap: The Legends trailed 20-14 to start the fourth quarter when they scored 9 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning field goal to pick up the win.
Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray threw for 306 yards and 1 touchdown. Wide receiver Seantavius Jones posted 5 receptions for 89 yards. Running back Tarean Folston recorded 11 rushes for 83 yards and 1 touchdown.

7. Salt Lake Stallions (1-4)
Result: Lost to San Diego Fleet 27-25 at home.
Recap: The Stallions turned the ball over five times in their loss to San Diego with three of them proving costly in the third quarter as they trailed by 13 early in the fourth quarter. They scored two touchdowns to take a one point lead late before the Fleet won the game with a field goal as time expired.
Former Liberty quarterback Josh Woodrum had 380 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions through the air. Running back Joel Bouagnon posted 11 carries for 36 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wide receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El had 8 catches for 130 yards.

8. Memphis Express (1-4)
Result: Lost to Atlanta Legends 23-20 on the road.
Recap: Each team exchanged scores all the way to the fourth quarter with Memphis holding a 20-14 lead. Atlanta scored a touchdown to tie the game with 11 minutes left. They kicked a 35-yard field goal with 9 seconds left to pick up the win over Memphis.
Former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw for 181 yards and 1 interception. Running back Zac Stacey rushed for 41 yards and 2 touchdowns. Linebacker Drew Jackson tallied 11 tackles to lead the defense.
