PROVO, Utah – Junior Wide Receiver Gunner Romney joined elite company after hauling in seven receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown versus Louisiana Tech.

Romney has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in each game this season.

He’s the first receiver to achieve that feat in three consecutive games under head coach Kalani Sitake.

The last receiver to post those kinds of numbers over a similar span was Cody Hoffman during the 2012 season.

Hoffman finished that year with four consecutive 100-yard receiving games against Idaho, San Jose State, New Mexico State, and San Diego State in the bowl game.

Romney is having a breakout season for the Cougars. After three games, he ranks fourth in total receiving yards, fourth in receiving yards per game, and 12th in yards per reception.

While averaging 23.31 yards per reception in 2020, Romney is becoming the deep threat coaches thought he could be when they recruited him.

Austin Collie holds the BYU record for most 100-yard receiving games in a single season.

He set that record back in 2008, when he ripped off 11 consecutive such performances before declaring for the NFL draft.

I have a hard time seeing Romney coming close to that record, but still, he’s off to a red hot start for the Cougars. He’s added a much-needed element to the top overall offense so far in college football.
