Former Utah RB Quinton Ganther Joining Urban Meyer In Jacksonville With Jaguars

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah star running back and Weber State RB coach Quinton Ganther will join Urban Meyer on his staff with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The former Utah running back Quinton Ganther will be going to Jacksonville to be an offensive assistant for his former head coach, Urban Meyer with the Jaguars.

“I want to thank Weber State for giving me a chance when no one else would’ve given me a chance,” Ganther told KSL Sports. “Also, I want to thank all of the kids and the parents for trusting me with their children. Knowing that when their kids left them they would become better people and young men. I appreciate the parents for the relationships that will last a lifetime with both the parents and the kids. I also want to thank Jay Hill for being such an amazing boss and influential person on me, while allowing me to still be me. I want to thank Urban Meyer for still believing in that 19-year old kid that he met on the tennis courts at Citrus Junior College. My whole life people counted me out. He (Meyer) is giving me a platform to continue to touch lives in different ways. I can’t wait to get to work with the Jaguars.”

Ganther was a running back for two seasons at Utah. His first year in Salt Lake City was Meyer’s last in 2004 when the Utes went undefeated and beat Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl. They became the first non-BCS school to win a BCS bowl game.

In 2004, Ganther rushed for 654 yards and 2 touchdowns. During the 2005 season, the first under Kyle Whittingham, Ganther ran for 1,120 yards and 7 touchdowns, while hauling in 25 catches for 314 yards and one TD.

Ganther was taken in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. After three seasons with the Titans, Ganther spent one season in Washington. In 2010, he played for Buffalo and Seattle before retiring from the game.

When his playing career was over, Ganther was a student assistant coach for Utah, working with Jay Hill and the running backs in 2012. When Hill became the head coach of Weber State in December of 2013, Ganther joined him and coached the running backs for the Wildcats.

Under his leadership, Ganther produced 4 All-Big Sky performers, two backs that received back-to-back All-American honors. Four of the six running backs that have been coached by Ganther are in the top 10 in Weber State history for career rushing yards.

He will now make the move from Weber State and the Big Sky to the NFL and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Urban Meyer was hired to be the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, January 14. It’s his first head coaching job since he stepped down in 2018 at Ohio State due to health reasons. This is Meyer’s first coaching job in the NFL.
