BYU Names Jaren Hall Starting QB Against Boise State As He Returns From Injury

PROVO, Utah – The much-discussed BYU football quarterback situation against Boise State is now resolved.

Redshirt sophomore Jaren Hall returns to his post as BYU’s starting QB after two weeks away due to a ribs injury.

Earlier this week, Hall was on KSL’s UnRivaled and gave an optimistic outlook on his injury status heading into today’s game against Boise State.

“It’s the same thing day by day,” Hall said to KSL Sports. “But I feel pretty confident that I’ll be ready to go this week and just continue to work with the training staff to kind of resolve the issues that I’m kind of dealing with right now.”

Jaren Hall so far during the 2021 season

Hall has passed for 561 yards this season with seven touchdown passes and only two interceptions in three starts. He’s also shown off his dual-threat ability by racking up 166 yards on 20 carries. That’s good for 8.3 yards per carry when the redshirt sophomore opts to run with the football.

Hall won the starting QB job for BYU coming out of fall camp over Baylor Romney and Jacob Conover. Romney filled in for Hall the past two weeks in wins over USF and Utah State. Unfortunately for Romney, he wasn’t able to close out the win over the Aggies last week. Before the end of the first half in Logan, he suffered a head injury in the win. He’s not expected to be available today against Boise State.

Hall has passed for a team-high 561 yards and completed 60 percent of his passes on the season. In addition, Hall’s decision-making has been solid this year, completing seven touchdown passes to only two interceptions.

BYU is 4-1 all-time in games where Jaren Hall is the starting quarterback. That dates back to 2019 when he made history, becoming BYU’s first Black American athlete to start at quarterback against USF.
