SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Vivint Arena will have new black signs on the exterior of the building the next time the Utah Jazz play in front of their home fans. After announcing that they would be dropping ‘Smart Home’ from the Vivint Arena name, the signs on the recently renovated building have undergone a transformation as well.

Though the name change was made official last season, the Jazz played the entire 2020-21 campaign with ‘Smart Home’ signs still surrounding the arena.

Just one month before the opening game of the 2021-22 Jazz season, the signs have been updated in black, and have dropped the ‘Smart Home’ title.

Jazz fans may have first noticed the change during the conclusion of the 2019-20 NBA season at the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando.

During home games, the Jazz were able to display local sponsors on the floor during television broadcasts. Instead of the traditional orange Vivint Smart Home Arena insignia that is displayed on the floor in Salt Lake City, a digital layover shows a black Vivint logo on the floor.

The color change matches other updates the team has recently made to their branding. In addition to the exterior of the building, much of the team’s color palette has shifted to black and white under new owner Ryan Smith.

Nearly all of the team’s decor underneath the arena where the locker room and media access rooms are located have been redecorated in black and white.

Last week, photos leaked of the team’s Zions Bank Basketball Campus practice floor with a redesigned black and white theme.

History of the Arena

The arena was built in 1991 under the title Delta Center. The Jazz moved to the arena after spending the early years of the franchise in the Salt Palace. Delta retained the naming rights until 2006 when EnergySolutions bid for the title.

The arena was called EnergySolutions Arena from 2006 to 2015 with the locally-based home security company Vivint bought the naming rights. Vivint owns the team’s naming rights through 2025.

The Jazz invested $125-million into the arena in 2015 to bring it up to date with competing buildings across the NBA. The upgrades included extended indoor entrances to keep ticket holders out of the frigid outdoor weather. Every seat in the arena was revamped to more comfortable padded chairs, while in-arena amenities were upgraded, including increased restaurant and team store options.

Last October, the Jazz were awarded the 2023 NBA All-Star Game after the team revealed the upgrades to the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
