LOGAN – Utah State safety Brevin Hamblin helped the Aggies earn their first win of the season. His performance also earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hamblin finished with a team-high 12 tackles and a late interception in Utah State’s 21-10 homecoming win over Troy.

The double-digit tackle performance was the 11th of Hamblin’s career and his first this season. He leads the Aggies with 31 tackles and has added two quarterback hits and two pass breakups.

At 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, Hamblin gives second-year defensive coordinator Nick Howell a versatile safety who can match up against tight ends, play in the box or patrol the deep middle.
Before the season, Hamblin made clear what he wanted to accomplish in the Aggies’ new conference.
“I want to be First Team All-Pac-12,” Hamblin said. “I really want to prove to myself and to everyone else out there that I can do this.”
A weekly honor isn’t the season-long recognition Hamblin is chasing, but it’s a start. Against Boise State this week, he’ll have a chance to build on it — and help the Aggies turn their first win into a winning start in Pac-12 play.
