SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 3 Lone Peak Knights held on to their first-half lead to secure a win against the No. 5 Orem Tigers in 6A football’s week two on Friday.

Knights linebacker Sa Tanuvasa opened scoring midway through the first quarter with a 75-yard pick-six. On the ensuing offensive drive, Tate Barney found Jaron Pula on an 82-yard bomb to make it 14-0. By halftime, the score sat at 24-7.

The Tigers outscored Lone Peak in the second half, but they weren’t able to make up enough ground, falling 34-21.

Week 2 Recap For 6A Utah High School Football

Alta Hawks (5A) 23 @ Bingham Miners 13

The Alta Hawks stonewalled the Bingahm Miners through three quarters on their way to a week two win on Thursday. Going into the fourth, Alta led 16-0. The Miners broke the seal with 13 points in the fourth, but a final Alta TD with six minutes left put the game out of reach.

West Jordan Jaguars (5A) 29 @ Copper Hills Grizzlies 27

The Copper Hills Grizzlies did their best to make it interesting, but ended up falling short against the West Jordan Jaguars on Friday. The Grizzlies struck first in the first quarter, but then the Jaguars responded with four straight unanswered touchdowns. The last three scores of the game belonged to Copper Hills.

Desert Hills Thunder (4A) 3 @ No. 15 Herriman Mustangs 50

The Herriman Mustangs opened the game with a 23-point first quarter, setting the tone for their win over the Desert Hills Thunder. The first quarter saw a pick-six, two offensive touchdowns, and a safety for Herriman. Quarterback Tyler Messer came up big with a passing touchdown and two of his own scores on the ground.

No. 2 Lehi Pioneers 7 @ No. 12 Mountain Ridge Sentinels 9

A fourth-quarter field goal lifted the Mountain Ridge Sentinels past the Lehi Pioneers in a grinded-out, defensive-minded contest in week two. Grayden Dumas put Mountain Ridge on the board with a first-quarter touchdown. Briggs Love gave Lehi the lead in the second with a short rushing score. Trailing by one, the Sentinels pinned a 38-yard field goal and held it down on the other end to come out on top.

No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers 38 @ West Broward (FL) 13

The Corner Canyon Chargers traveled across the country and pushed through a weather delay to come out on top against the West Broward Bobcats in week two. All five of the Chargers’ scores came on the ground. Helaman Casuga scrambled for two, and Weston Briggs punched in two more.

Maple Mountain Golden Eagles (5A) 14 @ Riverton Silverwolves 38

The Riverton Silverwolves scored 31 of their 38 points in the first half of their big win over the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles on Friday. Four different Silverwolves players found the end zone, with Xander Thayer scoring twice in the first and third quarters.

Bountiful Redhawks (5A) 14 @ No. 21 Farmington Phoenix 3

After the Farmington Phoenix opened scoring with a field goal in the first quarter, the Bountiful Redhawks’ defense held them scoreless from then on. They took it further than not allowing scores, though, forcing Farmington into two safeties. Bountiful’s lone touchdown came late in the fourth quarter on a goal-line rush from Siaki Fekitoa.

Liberty (NV) 27 @ No. 6 Skyridge Falcons 45

Three Nevada teams came into Utah in week two, and none were able to leave with a win. The Skyridge Falcons washed the Liberty Patriots behind a 21-point first quarter. Receiver Talmage Oswald had two receptions for two touchdowns, and running back Lincoln Tahi also punched in two scores on the ground.

No. 19 Timpview Thunderbirds (5A) 25 @ No. 9 American Fork Cavemen 48

The Timpview Thunderbirds were unable to keep up with the dynamic attack of the American Fork Cavemen on Friday. American Fork scored 14 in the first, 14 in the second, and 13 in the third. Two Cavemen quarterbacks, Kapano Manuela and Nate Childs, threw for three touchdowns against the Thunderbirds.

Pleasant Grove Vikings (5A) 12 @ Westlake Thunder 45

After a scoreless first quarter, the Westlake Thunder exploded for 21 points in the second, paving the way for their big week two win over the Pleasant Grove Vikings. Westlake QB Bosten Fountaine threw five touchdowns, two of which went to Malik Sika and another two to Slone Sua.
